LINCOLN ELEMENTARY “POETRY SLAM”

Students from Lincoln Elementary entertained the customers at #7 Coffee House Tuesday afternoon in downtown Wellington with a "Poetry Slam"...5th grade Lincoln instructors Aubrey Yager and Stephanie Ryan wanted to try and make poetry more "fun and engaging" for their students so they studied five different types of poetry: acrostic, haiku, limerick, diamante and free verse. Each student then wrote a poem from each genre, then they picked their favorite to read at the poetry slam. Parents and administrators were invited to come and support the kids as were some 3rd graders from the land of Patriots!. The students had a blast and it was a great experience for the students and everyone else!

WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY “CANDY BAR ELECTION”

Mr. Bob Meyer's 4th grade class at Washington Elementary has been studying the election processes, the electoral college and other aspects of how voting takes place in our country. That learning process on Tuesday was totally hands on as students and others were allowed to vote for their favorite candy bar - either SNICKERS or BUTTERFINGERS. Evidence prior to voting was presented from both sides, the SNICKERS folks taking a "our candy bar is healthier" approach which in the end lead to their victory apparently - final tally was SNICKERS 68 BUTTERFINGERS 52. The winners had listed out the "healthy ingredients" in their bars but of course didn't emphasize the "unhealthy ingredients" quite as much. It would seem they're learning quite well how politics can work! :) The voting process on Tuesday was very real. As a voter, you were greeted and you signed in with the voting officials. Workers would then hand you a ballot and also escort you to the voting booths. Once your ballot was completed, you were given the customary "I VOTED" sticker as you departed and thanked for participating in the process. The best part? You were able to sample both candidates prior to voting!! GREAT JOB MUSTANGS!!

EISENHOWER CHRISTMAS MUSIC PROGRAM
The Eisenhower 3rd and 4th grade Eagles held their Christmas Music Program Tuesday evening out at Wellington High School under the direction of Pamela Thompson. A variety of pieces were performed and enjoyed by the large crowd of family and friends whom were present. Young kids singing and celebrating about Christmas is always an enjoyable event. The music programs are innovative and creative and the students certainly enjoy performing! There are more Christmas Programs coming up – we’ll keep you posted!!
